Removable Pipe Supports

The photograph above shows one of 72 of these supports fabricated by Piping Technology & Products, Inc. for shipment to Alaska. Note that the distance between the top pipe where other components are attached and the base the support rests on can be changed by selecting the holes for the arms. These removable supports are used during installation of pipelines. Pipe sections may have other permanent supports if the pipe is above ground or the lines may be underground.

Value-Added Marking and Packaging

The photograph above shows a number of fabricated components of a piping system being marked for individual packaging before shipment to the construction site at a chemical plant. The markings correspond to the assembly drawings which are used during construction to assure the many little components are efficiently installed to meet a demanding schedule. Piping Technology & Products, Inc. prepared the detail drawings and fabricated all components for a series of four projects for chemical plants in USA.

Polyurethane Products for Piping System

Polyurethane Products for Piping System
Polyurethane Products for Piping System

The two pictures above show two types of polyurethane products produced by Piping Technology & Products, Inc. for piping systems. At the top are cold shoes to support piping at cryogenic temperatures. The polyurethane cradle is bonded to steel shield which is welded to a T-bar. These cradles are produced by pumping the chemical components required into a mold which gives them the correct shape. At the bottom are supports produced by drilling and machining solid polyurethane blocks. Polyurethane provides both insulation and the strength to support pipes at cold temperatures.

Mechanical Snubbers

Mechanical Snubbers
Mechanical Snubbers

The two pictures above show mechanical snubbers which are used to limit the velocity of movement of piping systems when sudden accelerations caused by earthquakes, extreme wind loads or water hammer occur. These devices are designed with a brake drum which is activated by sudden movement. During gradual movement, such as would be expected during thermal expansion, the brake is not activated. Mechanical snubbers do not depend on hydraulic principles so they do not require maintenance during normal operation. The top picture shows the pins and swivel bearings used to link these snubbers to the system it will protect. The bottom pictures shows our inventory maintained for emergency deliver.

Hydraulic Snubbers

Hydraulic Snubbers

The two pictures above show hydraulic snubbers which are used to limit the velocity of movement of piping systems when sudden accelerations caused by earthquakes, extreme wind loads or water hammer occur. These devices are designed so slow movement, such as would be expected during thermal expansion, has practically no resistance, but sudden rapid movement is resisted with a force proportional to the velocity raised to a power where the power is determined by the orifice valve and flow pattern in the design. Selection of materials and liquids used will depend on the environment where the snubber is installed. The snubber at the bottom has a ball joint attached for linkage with the system it will protect.

Constants for a Radiant-tube Support System

Constants for a Radiant-tube Support System

The photograph above shows a large number of specially designed constant spring supports being prepared for shipment to Chile. These constants are the key component of a reforming furnace, radiant tube support system designed for one of the world’s major engineering and construction firms.

Piping Technology’s engineers designed these units to fit in the limited space available inside the furnace and provided optional bolting patterns so attachment to the supporting structure could be made even if the radiant tube support system assumed a competitor’s design.

Bellmouth Reducers

The picture above shows four bellmouth reducers which have just received the final coat of a special paint. These are components of the cooling water piping system designed for large, new petrochemical complex. The bell shape is a segment of an ellipse chosen to function as a vortex breaker during high velocity flow.

Refurbished Constant Supports

The picture above shows the “before” and “after” of constant supports refurbished by Piping Technology & Products, Inc. Customers ship these units to our plant during a turn-around in a wide variety of conditions. In this case it was cheaper and faster to refurbish them than to rebuild. In either case each unit is completely tested in a load cell to assure performance and a new name plate is attached to record the load, travel and other parameters. Four of these horizontal upthrust supports can be seen above, ready for return to the customers. Power plants, petrochemical plants and paper mills are the primary users of this service.

45,000 lb. Load CAD Spring Support

45,000 lb. Load CAD Spring Support

The photograph above shows a CAD Spring Support to handle over 45,000 lb. Load with movement in excess of 4”. This is a PTP-8, size 22 Type F Spring Support utilizing four stacked hellcat coils with eliminates the possibility of binding or squirming, problems which baffled others attempting development of such a design. Travel stops hold the coils in compression to cold load, while hydrostatic test spots prevent the coils from “bottoming out” during line tests. The spring casing and baseplate, which eliminates the need to weld after galvanizing, are paramount to the success of this design.
